1945年。夜晚，一個男人遇到了一隻女鬼。如月當空，這隻「鬼」皎潔而明慧。男人有情，面對這皎月之容、美貌不俗的「女鬼」，一心要揭開謎底，看看這一場緣份的真相。
1955年，男人已離開戰後的上海，獨自到了香港。那段刻骨的暗夜記憶，在同樣陰冷濕寒的空氣裡再現，聲聲敲擊著……

徐訏的短篇《鬼戀》於1937年發表，當年轟動文壇。此後曾三度被搬上電影大銀幕，最近期的是1996年陳逸飛導演的《人約黃昏》，由香港影帝梁家輝主演，2014年亦由上海現代人劇社改編成同名話劇。室內歌劇《鬼戀》是首次把故事搬上歌劇舞台。作曲家陳慶恩現時為香港最多產的歌劇作曲家，這次夥拍得獎編劇家意珩合作，還邀得歐洲當今炙手可熱的年輕日籍歌劇導演菅尾友執導。演出方面，由廖國敏指揮，男高音柯大衛、女高音莫子慧及男低中音黃日珩分別飾演「人」、「鬼」及「月光」，在淒冷的氣氛下帶領觀察進入一個迷離的意境裏。

1955, the man has left post-war Shanghai and is alone in Hong Kong. The dark unforgettable memory of those times recurs again in the same dark dank air, throbbing…
 
How does one free oneself from bondage? When the world of ghosts is revealed, we learn what it is to be human.
 
 
Xu Xu’s novella “Ghost Love” was published in 1937 to great acclaim with a sensational reception.  It was adapted at least three times to the movie big screen, the most recent version being 1996, directed by Chen Yifei starring Hong Kong Best Actor awardee Tony Leung.  In 2014, it was also adapted into a play in Shanghai.  This chamber opera was the first attempt to adapt the story to the opera stage.  Composed by Hong Kong celebrated composer Chan Hing-yan with a libretto by award-winning script-writer Yi Heng, the opera is directed by the much sought-after Japanese opera director Tomo Sugao from Berlin.  Led under the baton of conductor Lio Kuok-man, tenor David Quah, soprano Athene Mok and bass baritone Apollo Wong respectively as “Man”, “Ghost” and “Moonlight” will lead the audience into a realm of intrigue and betrayal.
